MCB vs MCCB: choosing the right circuit protection.

MCBs and MCCBs both protect electrical circuits, but they are used in different current ranges, panel types and operating conditions. The right choice starts with the application—not the product name.

What is an MCB?

A miniature circuit breaker is commonly used for lower-current distribution circuits where compact size, straightforward protection and easy resetting are important. MCBs are typically found in distribution boards, commercial circuits and smaller panel applications.

What is an MCCB?

A moulded case circuit breaker is intended for higher-current applications and offers a wider range of protection and isolation options. MCCBs are commonly used in industrial panels, feeders, machinery and larger distribution systems.

What should you compare?

  • Rated current and expected operating load.
  • Breaking capacity required by the installation.
  • Number of poles and system configuration.
  • Panel space, isolation needs and maintenance requirements.
  • Future load changes or expansion plans.

Selection should start with the application.

A breaker should be selected around the electrical system it needs to protect. If you have a rating, panel specification, existing product reference or application details, the inteks team can help narrow down suitable options.
